Writer-director Ravi Kumar sent the script to a raft of heavyweight Hollywood actors. He wanted to interest a powerful name in playing the key role of Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson. Martin Sheen, a high-profile human rights and environmental activist as well as one of Hollywood’s most respected actors, was intrigued. Speaking about the movie, Sheen said,
“I knew about Bhopal when it happened. It was horrifying. We couldn’t believe the extent of the death and destruction. A friend of mine presented me the script and said, ‘Is there any possibility…?’ and I said ‘Absolutely.’”
