Daler Mehndi gifts his fans a new blockbuster Lohri Song!

Daler Mehndi may be the King of Bhangra-Pop, but he’s also the King of Lohri!  Mehndi is starting the new year with a hot new – and free! – track for all his fans called the “Lohri Song.”  The song celebrates the mid-winter festival of the Indian subcontinent to mark the winter solstice day (being shortest day and longest night of the year) signifying the return of longer days.

In the evening, with the setting of the sun, huge bonfires are lit in the harvested fields and in the front yards of houses.  People gather around the rising flames, circle around (parikrama) the bonfire, and throw puffed rice, popcorn and other munchies into the fire, shouting “Aadar aye dilather jaye” (May honor come and poverty vanish!), and enjoy this festival by singing and dancing around the bonfire.

Daler Mehndi re-invents the classic tune, “Baari Barsi” (12 year sojourn of a beloved who on his return is being questioned as to what made him stay away for so long), in a way only he can! The song is full of attitude and is a complete clubhouse mix. The words are penned by the Maverick Mehndi and composed with his USP – i.e. the ability to get each and every person on the dance floor!  The words are funky, clearly showcasing a brave heart, and fully embody the Punjabi “chak de” (effervescent) spirit.

So, get ready to light the bonfire and dance to Daler Mehndi’s new gift – THE LOHRI SONG.  Let us know what your thoughts are regarding the tune below!
