Jhalak Dikhhlaja, India’s equivalent of “Dancing with the Stars”, has always showcased some amazing talent over the years from Prachi Desai to Sushant Singh Rajput to singer Chang of Indian Idol. This year, the show entered its 6th year, and the talent was just as powerful! The show was hosted by Manish Paul and Kapil Sharma, and was judged by Madhuri Dixit, Remo D’Souza, and Karan Johar. The top four (in alphabetical order) were Drashti Dhami, Lauren Gottlieb, Shaan, and Sonali-Sumant.
Singer Shaan with choreographer Marischa Fernandes left in fourth place. Child prodigies and sensations, Sonali and Sumant, (winners of India’s Got Talent 2012) came in the third place. The battle was then between American dancer Lauren Gottlieb with choreographer Punit Shah, and actress Drashti Dhami with choreographer Salman Khan.
Lauren came to India after being cast in Remo D’Souza’s “ABCD: Anybody Can Dance” movie. In the US, Lauren had been a contestant on the third season of the USA based show, “So You Think You Can Dance” as well as an assistant choreographer for later seasons. She also entered the world of acting in 2005 with the TV movie, “Ghost Whisperer”. With extensive training in dance and acting, it seemed like Lauren was at an advantage and was poised to win. However, despite being a strong competitor, Lauren, came in the second place.
The winner of Season 6 was Drashti Dhami, who also put on some amazing performances, which culminated in her winning the title of Jhalak Dikhhlaja Season 6 and the 50 lakh prize! Drashti Dhami is well known for her popular roles in television shows like: Colors’ Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and STAR One’s Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi and Dill Mill Gayye. She has a strong fan base due to these shows, but she had some strong dance numbers in Jhalak, which shot her to the number one spot. Drashti’s partner was the extremely talented choreographer, Salman Khan. Since joining Jhalak, Khan showcased amazing versatility and showcased his creative-genius as a choreographer. It was as much Drashti’s win as it was his.
Superstars Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra graced the sets of the finale to promote the upcoming movie, Krrish 3! With such amazing actors and outstanding dancers, there was no doubt the finale was going to be a memorable one! As you can see, the competition was really tough this year! Congrats to Drashti on her well-deserved win! Here’s hoping Season 7 of Jhalak will be just as good, or even better!
