Music What's Happenin'

FOSTER THE PEOPLE How Music + Fashion = Do Good [sponsored]

The thought that the band would soon sell millions of records and travel the world for the next year and half wasn’t on Nathan’s mind when he joined the band Foster The People to help his friends kick off the Torches Tour. He actually didn’t care how cool everyone thought it was he was on the bus. There was something else on his mind; Orphans in a foster home.

At the time it had only been a few weeks that Nathan had been back in the US from Port Au Prince, Haiti – one of the poorest countries in the world. Nathan was there volunteering at Child Hope International a nonprofit organization focused on rescuing abandon children. After assisting those affected by the earthquake that claimed over a quarter million lives and leaving hundreds of thousands of kids parentless, the reality was that Nathan was now back in the US and on the tour bus with one of the hottest bands traveling the world. FOSTER THE PEOPLE.

With a background in fashion design Nathan returned to Los Angeles after a number of shows on the west coast, and started designing the brand STALYON, a brand that clothes & equips a new generation of legendary travelers in the Americas and around the world. The concept is simple: Travel + Give.

“At the end of the day we are all travelers. What makes us a band of legendary travelers is by choosing to help those around us who are in need.” – Nathan, Founder of STALYON

Today, more and more small business and entrepreneurs are looking at ways to do-good and turn business into a platform of giving. TOMS shoes for example was created by Blake Mycoskie after a trip to Argentina where a passion to give kids the opportunity to have a new pair of shoes to protect their feet from infection and disease began. WARBY PARKER gives a pair of glasses to someone in the world who would never had had the opportunity before to see clearly. FOSTER THE PEOPLE even began the DO GOOD BUS to empower the youth to do good in their communities by volunteering their time and assisting others.
