As every year, our favorite Bollywood celebs did a phenomenal job of representing India at the 66th Cannes festival. Although some could have stepped it up with their style game, all of the B-towners presented themselves in a rather elegant and classy manner.
Let’s take a closer look!
Amitabh Bachchan. Is it even possible for this man to look bad? Although several critics have been badgering the ensemble he chose to wear for the screening of The Great Gatsby, I think he looked fabulous. How many 70-year-olds can rock a black sequined studded suit?
On the other hand, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s choices throughout the festival were either a hit or a miss. Aish chose a shimmering gold sari by Tarun Tahiliani for the amfAR gala. The sari itself was quite beautiful, but the high-neck collars completely destroyed the look and her hairdo just added to the mess. Fortunately, her teal one-shoulder Gucci gown was a stunner! She added a pop with hot pink lipstick and a simple yet elegant high bun. Aish– take more risks when it comes to your style and remind us again why you are known as the world’s most beautiful woman!
The B-town diva and fashionista, Sonam Kapoor, turned heads in one of my all-time favorites of the festival — a Shehla Khan lehengha. Simply stunning make-up, hair, and necklace to top off the beautiful piece. Her Dolce & Gabbana gown was of equal caliber. Several critics have been suggesting she went too far and overdid some of her looks to maintain her fashionista reputation, but I completely disagree. No less was expected from her ensembles, and she pulled them off rather well!
The newbie Ameesha Patel presented herself quite well at Cannes. Alongside Ameesha was Puja Gupta, who looked great but could have chosen a far better look. Ameesha brought out her traditional side by wearing Indian pieces for the two days she was there and wore Manish Malhotra. Just beautiful.
Vidya Balan is the one Bollywood actress I wish would step aside her boundaries and experiment with clothing. The fact that she’s so content with dressing the way she does and doesn’t really care about what critics have to say about her style impresses me though. She gets an A for confidence, but that doesn’t excuse her for her questionable choices at Cannes.
Mallika Sherawat also let me down. Like Vidya, she wears whatever she is wearing with confidence but, at times, fails to impress us with her clothing choices. She chose a net black strapless gown and a grey lace gown, both by Dolce & Gabbana. The grey one was completely unflattering for her body.
