‘Maharajas of Comedy’ to launch in New York City

We’ve all hoped that some day we’d have enough desi comedians in the industry to have a purely desi stand-up comedy show.  It is just such an event that we’re proud to inform you of in NYC!  Celebrity desi Comedians are joining their forces in the “Maharajas of Comedy” – a live 1 hour comedy show, which features the performances of some of the world’s top comedians of South Asian origin.

The event is set to take place on Friday, February 15th and Saturday, February 16th, at Mason Hall in New York City. Filmed in front of a live audience, comedians will give the audience their views on being South Asian in America. You’ll hear personal stories of growing up, their families, their experiences, dating and a variety of other subjects. The Live show will air on a major television network this spring.

Maharajas of Comedy will be hosted by Kunal Nayyar best known for his role as Rajesh Koothrappali on the number one network television sitcom for three years, The Big Bang Theory and Gupta in movie series, “Ice Age”.

Performing Comedians include:

• Dan Nainan who has recently performed for President Obama and is known to deliver 100% clean material.
• Anish Shah headliner for the sold-out No Laughing Matter comedy tour in 2012
• Kabir “Kabeezy” Singh, who has shared the stage with some of the biggest comedians including Dave Chappelle, Dane Cook, Bill Burr, and Russell Peters!
• Mark Saldana, named “The best Indian…if not Asian comic in the country.” by The Los Angeles Times!
• Paul Singh, one of the only comedians who can perform in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.
• Lastly, live via tape from India, Papa CJ will deliver a special message.

Following the taping, a worldwide tour will begin throughout North America and overseas showcasing an Indian perspective in America from many hilarious viewpoints. This will be an excellent chance for the comedians to showcase their talent in front of a large live audience and provide exposure to a very wide international theatrical and home audience. Papa CJ will be joining the tour at its next date.
