Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who plays the character of a blind man in AndhaDhun, talked about the side effects of playing such an intense role, about doing thriller for the first time, and how it was working with the Netflix sensation of today’s time, Radhika Apte.

The trailer of Andhadhun is being loved by the audiences, so when asked about it, Ayushmann said:

“Very excited about the reaction to the trailer, because it is a unique trailer. It’s a very unique genre that Sriram Raghavan has cracked because it is a thriller but still not a dark thriller, it has moments of darkness but it has a lot of fun moments, lot of quirks and you’ll be getting lot of shockers or revelation every 7 minutes into the film so its really exciting.”

When asked about doing a thriller with the Badlapur director, he said:

“I’m safe hands with Sriram Raghavan, he’s the one. I did not want to do a thriller or anything different with a new director or somebody whom I don’t trust so I waited for six years to have that gear shift and finally doing a thriller with Sriram Raghavan.”

When asked if he had to endure any “side effects” of playing a blind person in the movie and how did he come out of the role, he said:

“I normally switch on and off quite easily. I’m not the person that just lives in that character, I’m a very spontaneous actor. I don’t believe in like shutting myself from the whole world and get into character on the road I don’t get affected by things happening around me, like if I’m acting and somebody is behind the camera making faces it doesn’t affect me at all. I think that’s the training from three theatre that I’ve got. Because I’ve done three theatre where the audience is not ready at all so we just go in a situation where we have to perform, we have to do it.”

As the audiences will we see Ayushmann in a new character, something different from his usual “slice of life’ films, we asked him what attracts him to a certain character, he said:

“More than the character I see the film in totality. It should be entertaining as a film or it should be different, never been achieved before kind off script. So I think that really attracts me a lot more than my own character. Then, comes my character, how differently I’ll be to play my character in respect to the other films of mine, like that’s secondary, first and foremost is the film in totality.”

On working with Radhika Apte, Ayushmann said:

“Radhika Apte is a very brave actor. She’s taken a lot of courageous characters which is very unusual with the frontline actors these days. And it was great working with her, she’s very different and very radical with her choices.”

As Ayushmann started with playing the role of a sperm donor, then moved to middle class guy to a guy with erectile dysfunctioning and now a blind man, so when asked what kind of character he wishes to play next, he said:

“I really don’t know. I think our script writers are very talented these days. I never expected I’ll be playing a sperm donor, I never expected I’ll be playing a guy with erectile dysfunction, so I think more than me there’ll be some writer writing a quirky character for me in some corner of Aaram Nagar or Andheri I don’t know, I think they’ll throw surprises.”

Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Andhadhun is slated to release on 5th October, 2018.
