Known as the recipient of a Filmfare Award and the winner of the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer (Moh Moh Ke Dhaage) and many more awards, Monali Thakur is all set to release a single with Meet Bros, Harmeet and Manmeet.
UrbanAsian got a chance to interview the Bengali girl, Monali Thakur, who spoke about the Meet Bros, their single Shy Mora Saiyaan and much more.

- How did you come up with the idea of Shy Mora Saiyaan?
So honestly speaking, this was completely Meet Bros’ ideas. Manmeet was behind me for so long to do a single and I had done one but that was more of international. So Manmeet was like I am not waiting anymore let’s do this song. The song was very nice and everyone liked it. And when we recorded it, Shabina came on board to direct, they sat and figured it out and discussed the concept. Then they came up with the idea of having young faces for the couple and they wanted me to play the cupid. I am so excited to see the video.
- Since this song is on Navratri, will this be a typical Navratri song or will there be some twits too?
It’s not a typical Navratri song. Actually, the song is really modern. It is basically a dance track. We did it quick so that we can present it to the audience by Navratri because people love to dance in Navratri. That is why we have released it now.
- You are playing a cupid in the song, so have you played a cupid in real life?
I tried to but nobody took me seriously. (Laughs)
- Any memories that came to your mind of Navratri while shooting the song.
I have only one experience of Navratri and after that, I never tried to do it. I got hit really bad with a Dandiya. It was during college days in Bengal. Some guy who was dancing next to me he directly hit my nose with the dandiya and my nose started bleeding. He is the reason why I have a crooked nose. (Laughs). After that, I never played Dandiya.
- The memorable or funny incident that took place while shooting the song.
Funny thing was Manmeet’s expression. I couldn’t give much time for rehearsals, so there was one step they wanted me to do and they didn’t have that confidence in me that I will be able to do it. So when I was down shooting and Shabina was teaching me the steps and Manmeet was sitting upstairs looking worried, whether I will be able to do it or not and that too so quick. Then he saw me giving expressions and dancing perfectly, his expression at that time was too funny.
One more incident was there. We were done with the shooting but didn’t do the dubbing. Recently only, a few days back, we did it. And Manmeet, because of frustration and anger, he used to start laughing like Boman Irani in Munna Bhai MBBS.
- Any future plans of doing a single again?
Yes yes sure! In fact that has been my aim for a long time. It is my composition and is very special and will be out soon.
- One good and one bad quality about Meet Bros?
Bad nothing is there but good qualities are many. I like the fact that they are so sorted and humble. They want good for others also which is very beautiful and positive thing.
