There is no doubt that actor Sumit Kaul, who has acted in hit shows like Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat, Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Siya Ke Ram, is a terrific performer. it was this versatility that got him Haider where the association was beyond the role he enacted. It was his His knowledge of Kashmiri language that ensured he was retained by Vishal ji to support other actors like Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor with the accent.
His latest stint as the Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATU) officer Gyan Thakkar on the show 24 gave him another chance to display his acting chops. About his role, he says,
“I play an ATU officer who is part of Jai Singh Rathore’s (Anil Kapoor) core team and conducts major operations to protect the country from large scale terrorist attacks. My character is intense and passionate about his work while not being very expressive in his personal life.”
Sumit says he had to play his character in such a way that people would initially suspect him to be hand-in-glove with the terrorists.
“When it is revealed that my character Gyan is actually on the side of the ATU and is a loyalist, the audiences loved it. I have received wonderful feedback from fans who said that they find me extremely convincing as Gyan Thakkar and have found a connection with his silent intensity. Sumit himself loves being a part of a show like 24 which he believes represents the changing face of Indian television. He says, “Being part of such a show is a matter of pride for me. Shooting in a film-like set up in a real time script with the choicest of actors has been a dream come true.”
