Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Harish Rawat today initiated a significant step forward in his mission ‘Green Uttarakhand’ by agreeing to introduce Indian-American businessman and philanthropist Manoj Bhargava’s Free Electric bicycle in Uttarakhand.
Commenting on the agreement, Harish Rawat said:
“In the wake of climate change and the challenge to produce green energy, we have initiated this partnership. The challenge we face is to make this entire power generation process more environmentally friendly on one end, while radically redefining the distribution side to ensure minimal financial burden for both the state and my fellow Uttarakhandis.”
“Just imagine a scenario where you don’t have to pay for your household power and can generate it by yourself at home. Imagine its impact on the state, its finances and more importantly on the environment, as this would mean far lesser environmental impact, brought on by power generation and transmission. ‘Green and Prosperous Uttarakhand’ is not just a catch phrase but our collective dream. This free electric bicycle, which to me is nothing short of a miracle, will most definitely play a very large role in achieving this dream. Thank you very much Mr. Bhargava for not just making it a reality but for also introducing it to our state,”
added Shri Rawat.
The energy-generating Free Electric hybrid stationary bicycle can provide enough electricity for a small home for 24 hours with just an hour of pedaling. Pedaling the bicycle spins a flywheel, which powers the generator. This charges the battery, and creates enough power to run lights, a small fan, and charge a cell phone and tablet.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Manoj Bhargava– creator of the world famous 5 Hour Energy drink and the Free Electric bicycle said,
“Electricity is a basic human need. Yet there are over 1.3 billion people around the world who are still living without access to electricity. Free electric accommodates households that either have no electricity or electricity for only a few hours a day, all without generating harmful pollution or causing any damage to the environment. This will have a widespread impact on livelihood, education, health, and ensure a better quality of life for people across Uttarakhand.”
“My approach to things is: Let’s invent things that make a difference to peoples’ lives, and the inventions that really matters are the ones that will help the poorer half of the world. Let’s do stuff, not just talk about it.”
Now that’s what you call green and serene!
