Continuing its massive success, the blockbuster Marathi film ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’ enthralled the audience at 46th International Film Festival of India. Talking about his film, director Subodh Bhave said,

“This film hopes to bring me and the newer generations closer to Indian classical music and reject the idea that it is only about complexities. The film also speaks about how innocence and perseverance are pivotal to a successful and happy life. It attempts to explore the relationship between the intellect and emotion through the story of Sadashiv and his two gurus- Panditji and Khasaheb. I am happy to present my film in India’s biggest film festival and looking forward to catch some films from other filmmakers.”

The original play on which the film is based had some legendary names from the classic musical world associated with it when it was first staged in the ‘60s. The story revolves around the battle between two music gharanas in the kingdom of Vishrampur between Pandit Bhanushankar Shastri and Khan Saheb Aftab Hussain Bareliwale. The leading actor the film Subodh Bhave marks his directorial debut with this movie. The singer Shankar Mahadevan has made a super debut in the film.

The singer and now actor, Shankar Mahadevan said,

“The overwhelming success of the film establishes the fact that the great artistic work can never be deleted. Classical music is a blend of the intellect and emotions and the soul of this music is the correct technique. Such music can be attained only by abandoning one’s ego and surrendering to the art of music.”

The movie is also in race for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) Fellini Medal that festival is introducing this year. The film is also getting ready for a big theatrical release in the US and in the coming week.
