Award winning Indian author, speaker and youth icon, Chetan Bhagat, is releasing his fourth novel adaptation with the film 2 States. Chetan, who is also a leading columnist for India’s leading National newspaper ‘The Times of India’, has previously had three of his best-selling novels turned into hit Bollywood movies, ‘Hello’, ‘Kai Po Che’ and ‘3 Idiots’, the latter of which to this date has been the biggest international Indian film release.
A former investment banker, Chetan made his breakthrough as a writer with novels including Five Point Someone, which inspired the film ‘3 Idiots’. 2 States: The Story of My Marriage, which is based upon the real life story of the author and his wife Anusha Surya Narayanan, who are from Delhi and Tamil Nadu, is the second book-turned-film to be based largely on his life.
As well as being an award winning author, columnist and speaker, Chetan Bhagat has also been named as one of the ‘100 Most Influential People in the World’ in 2010 by Time Magazine. Speaking on the release of the movie, Chetan said
‘I get a lot of criticism, but I tell you, there is one book which has never been riticized which is 2 States. It is such a book, which at least for my readers means a lot to them, and I was nervous before the adaptation, but it was left in good hands and I think it is a movie that is going to do really well!’
Academy award-winning artist and composer, and producer of the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, A.R Rahman, has said of Chetan Bhagat
‘I’ve seen the effect Chetan has on his readers. He often writes about following your dreams and not bowing to others’ expectations. That isn’t easy in India, where family opinion matters and some professions are regarded as more serious than others.’
2 States is a stirring romantic comedy film about a young couple from different states in India (Punjab and Tamil Nadu), who meet at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (India) and fall in love. However, their relationship is riddled with obstacles as they try to convince their traditional families to accept their relationship. The film stars Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor in lead roles. It is directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Dharma Productions.
The movie hits worldwide this Friday!
