Music What's Happenin'

Manni Sandhu releases the official video to “Friday”

Hot on the heels of his critically acclaimed debut album, My Time, Manni Sandhu returns after a 2 year hiatus, with his highly anticipated single entitled “Friday” featuring the powerful vocals of renowned and hugely talented vocalist Manjit Pappu.

Since his previous release, Manni has solidified himself as one of the industry’s most buzz-worthy and sought after music producers. With well over 6 million legitimate YouTube hits on his music videos, Manni has gone on to enjoy wide-reaching success in the UK, India and Canada. It is this success that caught the eye of Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan, who performed to Manni’s song ‘Bottle’ at the Times of India Film Awards in Vancouver last year.

His latest single ‘Friday’ is an ode to the day that workers and students look forward to with anticipation; the most popular day of the week – Friday. ‘Friday’ is a head-nodding desi number with an urban twist. Combining heavy Hip-Hop drums with uplifting strings, Manni cleverly incorporates his signature urban style with an array of classical Indian instruments to create a feel-good song guaranteed to get listeners in the mood for the weekend. Speaking about the track, Manni said,

“I wanted to produce a song that gave people something to party to on a Friday and something to look forward to during the week. Whether it’s students or people who work a 9-5, everyone looks forward to a Friday so they can party, spend time with their friends, relax or just forget about work and enjoy the weekend.”

The music video focuses on Manni being prompted into work by his manager (played by Manjit Pappu). Soon after, he calls upon his Twitter followers and friends to his house for a party, to celebrate the end of the working week and the beginning of the weekend. Manni gets more than he bargains for when an unexpected surge of partygoers attend including a not-so-happy neighbor (played by Manak-E).

Following the release of My Time in 2012, Manni has certainly been occupied. In between touring Canada and producing 3 songs for newcomer Prabh Gill, he has released ‘Reload’, an ode to the UK Bhangra-Garage scene, received a nomination for best NRI Music Producer by PTC Punjabi, and produced a number one charting single for Immortal Productions. Despite this, he has still found time to work on his forthcoming sophomore album which features a huge line up of some of Punjab’s most prevalent and respected singers. The album, set to release later this year, promises to be Manni’s best work to date.
