Rarely do you see one filmmaker owing his journey to another. However, producer-director Raju Mavani owes his acting career to fellow filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV).
“Although I started my journey in the film industry as a director and producer, people know me as an actor and it’s all thanks to Ramu. I wasn’t inclined towards facing the camera, but he urged that I take to acting and soon Satya happened,” says Mavani.
Mavani, who has directed movies like ‘Iski Topi Uske Sar’ and Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Suraksha’ back in the ‘90s, is now finding his artistic release through acting. Having worked in movies of RGV like ‘Mast’ and ‘Sarkar,’ the actor shares screen space with Salman Khan once again in ‘Jai Ho!’
“After Maine Pyaar Kiya, I was to sign Salman in Baaghi which I was producing initially. But things didn’t workout and I had a fall out with the writers due to some creative difference and the movie later went on to Nitin Manmohan,” recalls Mavani.
Mavani has also starred in Salman’s Wanted. One can only wait to see the actor share screen space with Salman once again in Jai Ho.
