Special: Diwali Wishes from Bollywood

Diwali is meant to be a very joyous occasion that centers on celebrating those around us like friends and family, and teaches us to focus on the light in our lives not darkness.  Everyone from the general public to Bollywood celebrities all love indulging in festivities during this time.  I caught up with some Bollywood stars: Saqib Saleem, Vaani Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Ranveer Singh, and Ayushmaan Khurana regarding their Diwali plans!  Read on below!

Saqib Saleem Qureshi

Saqib Saleem debuted in Y-Film’s Mujhe Fraaandship Karoge.  He is Huma Qureshi’s younger brother.  

What are your Diwali Plans this year?

The plan is to call all my friends over… have a great evening, and of course, play some cards.

One childhood memory about Diwali that makes it so special?

One memory that still is fresh in my mind is that I would wait for my dad to come back from work and then would light diyas (lamps) around our house.

What are your favorite foods that you like to indulge in during the festivities?

I’m a hardcore foodie. But Diwali is the time to go crazy on the sweets!

Vaani Kapoor is an Indian actress and model who debuted in Bollywood with Shuddh Desi Romance.

What are your Diwali Plans this year?

I will be in Mumbai, and will celebrate it here with friends – probably a house party!

One childhood memory about Diwali that makes it so special?

My childhood Diwali celebrations were the best!  As terrible as I feel now for the environment, I used to love bursting crackers with all my cousins, and would play cards with my Dad and his friends as a kid!  But now, I have really sobered down when it comes to celebrating Diwali… no more crackers!

What are your favorite foods that you like to indulge in during the festivities?

Lots of sweets!!  I love indian sweets, especially gujiya, kulfi,ras malai... the list goes on…!

Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh always wanted had Bollywood dreams! These became reality with his debut in Yash Raj Films’ Band Baaja Baaraat! He has since followed up the film with other hits, and is currently gearing up for Ram-Leela a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film!

What are your Diwali Plans this year?

I will be promoting my upcoming film Ram-Leela, which releases on 15th November 2013!

One childhood memory about Diwali that makes it so special?

Our annual family dinner at my nani’s house, where the entire family would get together and celebrate. There always was the cheer of festivities and the warmth of kinship in the air!

What are your favorite foods that you like to indulge in during the festivities?

Definitely the mithais (sweets)!  Can never get enough of them!

Ayushmann Khurrana is as multi-talented as you can get. He is an Indian television anchor, film actor and singer! In 2012, Khurrana made his Bollywood debut with the romantic comedy Vicky Donor, which garnered him praise for his acting and singing (“Paani Da.”)

What are your Diwali Plans this year?

Will try and be with my family in Chandigarh.

One childhood memory about Diwali that makes it so special?

When I turned 18, my Dad asked me to distribute Diwali gifts, and made me drive around with friends in and around Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. Since then, it was one thing I looked forward to!

What are your favorite foods that you like to indulge in during the festivities?

I love Indian sweets, and since Diwali ensures enough supply of them, I completely indulge!!
