Bollywood What's Happenin'

"I am as excited about Kaanchi as I was about Hero"- Subhash Ghai

Subhash Ghai is so excited about his new movie Kaanchi, he just can’t stop talking about it! The talented director has been praising his new heroine, speaking about working with newcomers and of course promoting his film persistently. It seems Ghai is very proud and certain that this unique film is going to create quite the stir.

Kaanchi Still

Speaking about his female lead, Mishti, Subhash Ghai said,

“Last week while I was shooting for my film Kaanchi in Uttaranchal, I experienced one of the most magical moments of my life – the mystic mountains, mesmerizing music, colorful dancers and a young crew. But what thrilled me the most was the performance of my heroine Mishti, who is playing the title role. It reminded me how excited I was working with newcomers Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri in Hero in the 80s.”

So when does Subhash Ghai create his best work? When he’s working with fresh talent of course!

I realized that I’m at my best when I work with young talent as it’s a challenge for me. When they give good performances and the audiences goes gaga, making them overnight stars, I feel like I’m on a high. They move on in life and look forward to more fresh talent. At such times, I feel I am a filmmaker in the truest sense. The real test for any filmmaker is when he makes a film with newcomers in the leas role and turns it into a blockbuster. I am an actor’s director: I first write the characters and then rewrite again after casting the actors, keeping their positive and negative points in consideration.

When asked about the storyline of Kaanchi, Ghai said,

This is an aggressive and progressive film. Kaanchi is an interesting and unique character. She represents today’s youth and carves the guidelines for GenNext. The villains Mithun Chakraborty and Rishi Kapoor, provide lot of entertainment. However, the most surprising element of the movie are the three leading men – Kartik Tiwari who plays the charismatic lover, Rishabh Sinha who plays an obsessive lover and Chandan Roy Sanyal, who plays a corrupt police officer. While I think Kartik is star material, Rishabh’s screen personality is charming and Chandan is undoubtedly a good actor. He is the ‘sutradhar’ of the story.

Will audiences love the film as much as Subhash Ghai? Be sure to check it out when the film releases on August 30, 2013!
