Don’t worry, I’m not talking about a sub-class of people named Oscar who like taking safaris in Delhi. Instead, I’ve got great news for fans of Indian Cinema. Nikhil Advani’s animated flick, “Delhi Safari” has been short listed in the animation category at the 85th Academy Awards (the Oscars), one of the world’s most prestigious and well-respected award ceremonies.
Directed by Nikhil Advani, Delhi Safari is a rarity in Hindi cinema, an animated family film with real world themes about urban sprawl and the effects of humanity on the global ecosystem. The idea of this film came to Advani on one of the many long nature walks that he enjoys taking with his six year old daughter.
The balance between fun and being meaningful is what sets the film apart from the many animated films released in this category. Delhi Safari is brave departure from the stereotypical Bollywood animation films with a strong and crisp plot. The English version of the film features the voices of Jason Alexander, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Jane Lynch, Vanessa Williams and Brad Garrett. Quite an impressive voice cast, huh?!
Mending the gap between Hollywood and Bollywood, Nikhil Advani’s Delhi Safari is an entertaining crossover piece and well deserving for being shortlisted for the Oscars.
Please join the Urban Asian team in wishing Nikhil the best! Here’s hoping that Nikhil gets India an Oscar!
