If you live in Canada or the UK, Raghav is probably a household name to you. For some reason, however, the US is a bit behind when it comes to the desi music scene. Luckily, that’s all about to change because as we announced a couple months back, Raghav has been signed to the US label – Ultra Music – who also manage major artists like David Guetta, Deadmau5 and Calvin Harris.
“We are thrilled that Raghav has joined Ultra Music because he’s an incredibly talented artist and we look forward to making some hit records together,” said David Waxman, General Manager of Ultra Music.
On the 31st of August, Raghav and his record label held a launch party in NYC at NYC Crimson, for the release of his first single in the USA – “Fire“. The single, which is one of the hits on his latest album The Phoenix, has already been certified gold in Raghav’s home country of Canada. “Fire” was written by Raghav and produced by Jim Beanz of Timbaland Productions who, alongside UK producer Labrinth, has collaborated on The Phoenix.
I had a chance to cover the night and caught up with Raghav to talk about the launch. Raghav performed some of his hit tracks from “Let’s Work it Out” to “Angel Eyes” “My Kinda Girl” and rounded out the night with the premiere of “Fire”. The crowd seemed to enjoy every second of the performance. Not to mention the DJs for the night, DJ Karma and DJ Gaurav, kept the crowd pumped with hot dance tracks.
After the performance, Raghav and I sat down for a quick interview. I went to battle for this one for you all… well, a battle against the loud dance music and club lights! Here’s some trivia for you – the interview was actually conducted by candlelight! If I wasn’t there for work, that would’ve been quite a way to spend an evening with Raghav, right ladies? (*grins*)
Now that Raghav’s officially been launched in the US you’ll, hopefully, begin to hear more of Raghav’s songs playing on the airways. Our airways in the US could definitely use a little spice in the form of desi music! Till then, enjoy the interview and pics from the night! Do let us know if you’ve heard “Fire” on the airways and, of course, your thoughts on the song itself!
