The Indian Film Festival in LA will be celebrating its tenth year on April 10-15, 2012 featuring many major films and independent films from around the world. The 10th Anniversary of IFFLA combines the art of Indian cinema and the vibrant Indian culture in a unique way right in the heart of Hollywood!
The stupendous slate of Indian alternative films in the form of features, documentaries and shorts that are so rare to catch in the U.S. – highlights among them are Chittagong, and The Kite (Patang,) the opening and closing night films respectively that are both directed by debutant filmmakers. Abu, Son of Adam (Adaminte Makan Abu,) India’s entry to the 2012 Oscars Best Foreign Language film category, will also be shown at the event.
The Indian Film Festival of LA will also feature a Bollywood Night, the ever-popular series returns with the fresh, much-awaited blockbuster Agent Vinod starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor; Jackie Shroff’s foray into Tollywood Anima and Persona, a gritty gangsta flick; and the irreverent and riotous Imran Khan starrer, Delhi Belly. During these 21-and-over-only screenings, viewers can enjoy a glass of wine in the theater and unwind!!
IIFLA, will also have a retrospective section if you missed out on many others in the last few years, they have voted the best for a re-viewing, this includes Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan, Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday and Manish Acharya’s Loins of Punjab Presents.
A section for Family Day at IFFLA will have a fabulous treat created just for the little ones: first a screening of Gattu, a film about a feisty, defiant little street urchin, who takes matters into his own hands when one day he’s had enough of the ridicule and day-to-day toil of his life. The screening will be followed by a bunch of fun activities such as Bollywood dance lessons, story-telling and arts and crafts in the gorgeous Arclight courtyard, perhaps with a celeb or two!
Lastly, the IFFLA Rhythm Village! The festivities in the courtyard are as much an attraction as the films themselves. Indian décor creates a colorful backdrop in the expansive Arclight courtyard that morphs into a Rhythm Village most evenings where live Indian music and dances are performed by world-renowned artists and Indian food trucks serve ethnic gourmet and street fare.
