Mere Brother Ki Dulhan…..The title itself sounds so cheesy, but after the surprise package that Yash Raj Films presented audiences with in ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ I went in to the cinema with a complete open mind.
The film tells the story of Khush (Imran Khan) who is searching for the ideal bride for his brother Luv (Ali Zafar), who lives in London. After various comical meetings with strange girls, Khush meets the wild Dimple (Katrina Kaif).
Both bride-to-be and groom-to-be are introduced to each other via the internet and once all the formalities are complete, preparations for a grand wedding are in full swing. Before Luv heads back to India it is up to his brother Khush to make sure both the bride and the family are happy with all the preparations taking place….and without knowing it, he begins to fall for his brother’s dulhan.
The story sounds like a complete cliché and in some cases it is. However director Ali Abbas Zafar has executed the film so well that it feels completely fresh. Rather than an emotional drama, you’re watching a rom-com that keeps you laughing throughout.
The first half moves quite rapidly, however the second half does get a bit slow and could have benefited with around 10-15 minutes being cut out from the final edit.
Imran Khan is brilliant with his comic timing and Katrina Kaif not only looks fantastic but she is a delight to watch as an actor. Meanwhile Ali Zafar seems to portray the role of a charming playboy with so much ease and has great comic timing too! I have a hunch that his popularity will soar to new heights after the release of this film.
Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is another Yash Raj entertainer that will appeal more to the youths. It is a funny, feel-good, romantic comedy with a rocking soundtrack!
