Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Detained in India!

The nephew of the infamous singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, was detained at the New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport on charges of handling undisclosed money, over $100,000 to be exact.  At the moment, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik is working on directing the country’s envoy in India to extend consular support to the singer.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has left his mark in both Indian and Pakistani music. As an award winning artist, it’s no shocker that news of his detainment spread like wildfire in the media! The 37-year-old singer was on his way back to Pakistan after attending a few concerts and award functions in India. The money was confiscated from the 15-member troupe currently being interrogated by customs.

In response to the charges, Pakistani folk singer Rafaqat Ali Khan said, “Artistes sometimes showed carelessness in such legal matters, which landed them in trouble. The government must intervene in this matter to get him freed without any further trouble.”

Pakistani High commissioner to India, Shahid Malik, is on the case providing legal and consular support to the artist. The Minister and his staff has promised to “undertake all efforts to facilitate Rahat.”Airport officials and authorities have all been contacted in order to find a peaceful solution through proper methods.

“We are yet to establish any proper contact with the authorities in India although Rahat talked briefly with his wife and asked her to remain hopeful of a positive outcome,” Asim Raza, Rahat’s brother-in-law told Dunya TV.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan may have just started an international disaster! Hopefully the talented artist is released before this situation gets messy!
