Get the Classic Bollywood Smokey Eye

What do Rani Mukerjee, Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and basically all Bollywood actresses past and present have in common?  Their ability to use the smoldering qualities of dark eye colors and their soulful South Asian eyes to wow the masses by effortlessly pulling off a smokey eye.

The smokey eye is popular both in the South Asian world as is clearly evident in Bollywood and is also something that is often rocked in the Hollywood and music, and high fashion world today.  This is why knowing how to pull of a smokey look that works well for you is integral!  With these simple tips & tricks and your already exotic eyes, you can learn how to find a smokey look that you can wear when you want that ultra sexy yet glamourous edge.

Smokey does NOT always mean black: Yes!  Do not be afraid to stray from the traditional and switch up the smokey look with other dark colors that work equally as well.  The important thing to remember is that the smokey eye is based on blending and gradients.  This being said, try a purple, green, brown, or turquoise smokey eye.  Which ever color you decide to go with, make sure you have a very light shade, a heavily pigmented shade, and a dark almost black like shade.

Work with your eye shape: Websites like youtube can teach you a quick and easy way to create a smokey eye, however, there are a few easy steps that always work well for any shape.  1.) use the lightest shade on the inner corner of your eyes and blend it out along the entire lid.  2.) use the heavily pigmented (middle) color to accentuate your crease 3.) use the darkest color along your lower lash line and to form a ‘V’ connecting your crease to your upper lash line.

Stick to mattes: There is a high demand for sparkly and shimmery colors but a smokey eye in itself adds enough drama and glamour and you can really do without the distracting sparkles.  Stick to matte eyeshadows for a smooth finish.

The essentials: Black mascara on both the upper and lower lashes, black eyeliner lining the bottom waterline, and a soft black liner on the upper lash line smudged in to blend out the harshness should be used with whatever eyeshadow color you decide to use.

What to do with your lips:  Never ever ever ever pair a smokey eye with a dark lip!  EVER!  Since your eyes are so dramatic, stick to having the rest of your face be very muted.  A nude lip, or a light pink lip always works well.  Stay away from matte lipsticks, and even if you do use one, make sure to apply a shiny gloss on top.

The last accessory: Confidence and fierceness.  Work your smokey look by unleashing your inner tigress and be prepared to take the world by storm.
