Review By: Manisha Karki
Bala is centered on the life of a young balding person Bala Mukun Sharma (Ayushmann Khurrana), who to his baldness looks older than his age, gets embarrassed and whose personal life is in problems too.
The film also stars Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam. While Bhumi plays a dark girl in the film, Yami is shown as a modern, stylish and beautiful aspiring video sensation. It is important to go to theaters to see different person state of mind.
The film gives out the message of how one can be mentally harassed and mocked in society because of being bald, fat, dark skin or short in height. In the end its all about expecting and loving your our own self the way you are without any regret.
Each and every character in the film is shown beautifully and elaborates on how they deal with some or the other complications.
It follows the several failed attempts of Bala while growing new hair. The story also has a love story between Bala and Pari (Yami Gautam), the face of the fairness cream he sells and a TikTok sensation (you read it right). Bala then takes you through many twists and turns and turns out to be a laugh riot.
Amar Kaushik has done a very good job right from the screen play to the dialogues and finally the execution. The technical part of the film is smooth and worth watching. It is an amalgamation of great acting, writing and direction, which makes it one of the best movies of 2019.
Apart, from this, the thing that missed out was the character of Yami and Bhumi. Looking at the performance, Ayushmann Khurrana has done a fantastic job and has caught the audience till the end. Bhumi has done well but somehow was not adaptable as a dusky girl in the film. Yami’s character was portrayed well but the film looses her track in the end.
From Saurabh Shukla and Abhishek Banerjee to Jaaved Jaaferi, every character actor has played their role with a flavor that is unique to themselves. They are entertaining in their peculiarity and don’t remind you of any character you have seen earlier. Vijay Raaz as the narrator deserves a special mention.
The music of Bala is composed by Sachin-Jigar and the film has five tracks. Every song fits well with the story. The film is a fun time watch.
We give Bala three and a half stars, you can surely enjoy your weekend watching this film.
