Ravie Dubey backs Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram amid casting criticism for Ramayana

Ravie Dubey, who plays Lakshman in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana, has praised his co-star Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram. Ravie called Ranbir “simply the best we have” and spoke about his dedication, work ethic and humble nature.

Ranbir’s casting as Lord Ram has received mixed reactions on social media. However, Ravie believes the actor is the right person for the role. In an interview with Variety India, he said, “I think Ranbir is simply the best we have. He is a superstar of epic proportions, but what has stayed with me even more is the human being and the artiste I have witnessed at close range.”

Ravie also described being part of Ramayana as an “extraordinary moment”. He said that he has tried to keep his personal ambitions aside while working on the film because he sees the project as something bigger than individual achievements.

“With this film, I have constantly reminded myself that the larger purpose of all of us coming together, and that includes me, is to bring glory to Shri Ram’s name,” he shared. He added that whenever thoughts of ambition or achievement came to his mind, he reminded himself to focus on “surrender”.

Ravie had earlier spoken about Ranbir’s dedication to the role and revealed that the actor had made several personal sacrifices for the film. Speaking to Ranveer Allahbadia last year, Ravie said that the project had deeply influenced everyone involved.

“All of us did, including Ranbir Kapoor. He has sacrificed so much for this film. This feels more like a yagya. We all did everything in our power to stay true to these characters in how we behave, react, and even speak,” he said.

Meanwhile, the makers recently released the first song from Ramayana, titled Jai Jai Ram. Composed by AR Rahman, written by Kumar Vishwas and sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, the song was released on September 14. It features several important moments from Lord Ram’s life, including his wedding to Sita and his reunion with Bharat.

On Family Full House with Rohit Sharma, a conversation about family support led Krushna Abhishek, to ask Rohit Sharma about the people who supported him during his journey.

 

Sharing a personal insight, Krushna spoke about his own experience and said,

“Main toh itne saalon se television kar raha hoon, toh mere mama Govinda ji, unka meri life mein bahut support raha hai. Toh aapki family se aapko kisne support kiya hai?”

Responding to Krushna’s question, Rohit opened up about his childhood and the role his grandfather and uncles played in supporting his cricketing aspirations. He shared,

“Bahut log hain, bahut saare log hain. Kyunki main jab chhota tha, main apne maa baap ke saath nahi reh paaya. Toh main pala bada hoon mere dada ji ke saath. Phir mere dada ji aur mere chacha, toh unhone bachpan se lekar kaafi time tak mujhe support kiya, school leke gaye, school ki fees bhari, cricket camps jo hote the, uski fees bhari. Toh woh itna aasaan nahi tha hamare liye, but mujhe pata hai ki mere chacha log ne kaise woh sab kiya. Apna saara kuch sacrifice karke unhone hamesha mere liye aur mere goals ko aage rakhe.”

Speaking about his parents and the circumstances during his childhood, Rohit further added,

“Koi bhi apna beta chhod ke jaana nahi chahta, lekin mere mummy papa mujhe uss time par wahan par chhoda. Mujhe pata hai ki unka dil nahi kar raha hoga, lekin majboori thi, toh unhe karna pada.”

Reflecting on the importance of family support and how his grandfather and uncles helped him pursue his cricketing dreams, Rohit said,

“But maa baap ka support hamesha important hota hai aur mere liye bhi utna hi important tha jitna sab logon ke liye raha hai. Aur mere chacha, mere dada ji, in logon ki wajah se aaj mujhe yeh mauka mila ki main aage jaake cricket khelun.”

The heartfelt conversation highlighted the important role Rohit’s family played in supporting his journey and helping him pursue his dream of playing cricket.

Veteran actor Mandakini has opened up about shooting the iconic waterfall sequence in Raj Kapoor’s Ram Teri Ganga Maili, saying she never found the scene vulgar or uncomfortable.

The actor also recalled that she was only 16 when she began shooting for the film, which went on to become Raj Kapoor’s final directorial venture.

In an interview with ANI, Mandakini addressed the long-standing discussion around the white saree waterfall sequence, featured in the song Tujhe Bulayen Yeh Meri Bahen, as well as the controversial breastfeeding scene in the film. She explained that both sequences were presented within the story to highlight innocence and purity, rather than for the sensationalised reasons they were often perceived for.

Talking about the waterfall scene, Mandakini said Raj Kapoor had personally explained the sequence to her. She recalled that the filmmaker’s gentle and affectionate approach made her feel completely at ease while shooting.

“Unka tarika aesa tha ki aap unse koi sawaal hi nahi karte the… itna pyaar se, itna gentle, jaise aapka family member aapse karwa raha ho,” she said. She added that she did not feel there was “any vulgarity” in the sequence and that there was “no disgusting feeling” while filming it.

Mandakini further explained that the film’s larger theme revolved around the purity of her character, Ganga. According to her, the story showed how people tried to make Ganga “impure”, but ultimately failed.

“The whole movie was that there is no purity. They wanted to make her (Ganga) impure. But they didn’t succeed,” she said.

Ram Teri Ganga Maili was released in 1985 and featured Mandakini opposite Rajiv Kapoor. The film became particularly known for its music, emotional storyline and several scenes that sparked discussions over the years. Mandakini’s latest comments offer her perspective on the making and intent behind some of the film’s most debated sequences.

The trailer of Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s fantasy film The Vvaan: Force of the Forest was unveiled today, offering a glimpse into a world where ancient folklore, supernatural forces and romance come together.

The film marks the first time Sidharth and Tamannaah will be seen together as an on-screen couple. The 2-minute-44-second trailer introduces a mysterious forest, a powerful goddess and a conflict between faith and development ahead of the film’s theatrical release on September 25.

The trailer begins by introducing the Bhuttakas, described as dark forces of nature that are even darker than the night. It also establishes the legend surrounding the forest, where people are warned against entering after sunset as no one is believed to return alive.

The story then shifts to Sidharth and Tamannaah’s characters, who are shown as a married couple. Tamannaah’s character asks about the Chhath Puja holidays, while Sidharth’s character comes up with excuses. However, she believes that the goddess has called them to the forest.

Soon, the couple finds themselves caught in a series of supernatural events. At the centre of the conflict is the Vvaan Devi forest temple and the plans to develop the area. Sidharth’s character initially appears to be a rational man and a non-believer.

However, after an accident leaves him unconscious, he seemingly travels back in time and begins experiencing a mysterious connection with the forest.

The trailer suggests that his journey could be linked to his identity and an ancient secret buried within the forest. Tamannaah’s character, meanwhile, appears to play an important role in helping him understand the strange bond he shares with the place. She is also seen offering prayers to Chhathi Maiya.

The film’s earlier teaser had introduced its folklore-driven setting and hinted at an unknown supernatural force hidden inside the forest. A motion poster and comic-art reveal had previously offered glimpses into the film’s mysterious world.

The Vvaan: Force of the Forest has also seen multiple changes in its release date. Initially announced for a Chhath Puja release in 2025, the film was later scheduled for May 2026 and then August 28. It will now arrive in theatres on September 25.

Directed by Deepak Kumar Misra and produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor, the film also stars Manish Paul, Shweta Tiwari, Sunil Grover and Anup Soni.

“Scout stop… ye thappad wali baat galat hai. This is wrong. This is not done. Tum ye nahi keh sakte ki tum thappad maroge ladki ko,” Isha told him.
