Fashion Parade opened its doors to New York City at Christie’s this past week on August 27th, 2019 at its inaugural event in the United States. Presenting with Citi as it’s headline sponsor and partnering with The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), the event showcased fashion by six renowned South Asian designers and highlights from Christie’s upcoming auction of South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art, which was for view. The Fashion Parade had a combination of many designers who are aimed at an international audience in efforts to create awareness about South Asian fashion, art and culture through the fusion of traditional customs with modern trends.
Creative director Sadia Siddiqui created Fashion Parade in 2013, a venture showcasing to the Western world the beauty and craftsmanship of Pakistani and Indian fashion. Fashion Parade aims to provide a global platform to South Asian designers and create opportunities to bridge the gap between East and West. In its fifth year of showing and for the first time in the United States, Fashion Parade presents four designers from Pakistan and two designers from India: Faiza Samee, Ali Xeeshan, Delhi Vintage Co., Elan by Khadijah Shah, Rabani and Rakha by Raaz, and Kamiar Rokni.
This year’s designers included Ali Xeeshan, Delhi Vintage Co., Elan, Faiza Samee and Kamiar Rokni. It was a great event and turn out especially with so many people who came that were non-south Asian!
Check out some amazing work by Ali Xeeshan!
Next up was Delhi Vintage! What stunning print designs on the run way that caught my attention!
Elan by Khadijah Shah gave us such beautiful colors and styles on the runway! Makes us want each of them part of our closet!
Faiza Samee shared some of her work and showed that multiple colors can suit anyone!
Kamiar Rokni gives his creation and design on the runway! Great wear for an evening out!
Rabani and Rakha by Raaz showed off the beautiful designs by her! Simple yet elegant dreses for any evening time! Classy yet FUN!
Sadia Siddique pulled of a great show and we hope to see more of these great designers showcase the work they do in the heart of NYC! She recently told us:
There is an impressive new generation of South Asian designers who are making their debuts to the fashion industry. These younger generation designers have interesting ideas, some combining elements of both the east and west, revealing brilliant and unexpected designs. It is especially exciting to see such accomplished creators who are rising to the global market with innovative ideas. My advice for these rising creators: establish and utilize their Social Media platform to the best ability. In this technological age, social media has become a prominent and influential tool especially for creators and entrepreneurs who are looking to expand their audience. Platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter have globalized fashion, making it easier for Brands to showcase their products and give creators a chance to be seen and acknowledged. I advise young designers to utilize and take advantage of this tool in the best of their ability.
We hope to see more!
