Monsoon Wedding: The Musical is the musical adaptation of Mira Nair’s popular film, and is coming to St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York this May and June! Hypokrit Live Arts is working as an Associate Producer on the project, and their Artistic Director, Arpita Mukherjee is the Book Writer & the production’s Associate Director.
The film deals with the premise of the Verma family planning a modern and expensive wedding for their daughter and future son-in-law, who are having an arranged marriage. Relatives from around the world come for the wedding, and chaos ensues when they realize that the bride and groom are not really who they portray themselves to be. As the wedding draws closer, different members of the family start to bond, and love starts to blossom.
