Miss India Manushi Chhillar Wins Miss World 2017!

Can you believe it? It’s been 17 years! 17 years since the last time a Miss India won the Miss World title! It was back in 2000 when Priyanka Chopra brought home the title for India!  Now, after all these years, Miss India – Manushi Chhillar – has won the coveted Miss World title!  As a pageant queen myself, I am especially thrilled that Manushi won as she proved that winning a pageant requires one to have beauty and brains both!  Besides beauty, pageant girls are judged on their charity work, confidence, talent, and ability to answer questions under pressure.  Manushi excelled on all points!

Manushi is a trained kuchipudi dancer and loves outdoor sports (scuba diving, snorkeling and bungee jumping).  She is currently pursuing a medical degree (MBBS).  Her Miss World bio reveals that she wants to be a cardiac surgeon and has plans of opening non-profit hospitals in rural areas.  It is no surprise then that besides winning the main title, Manushi was a semifinalist in the Top Model, People’s Choice, and Multimedia competitions.  She was also a co-winner of the Beauty with a Purpose competition with her focus, Project Shakti.

The gorgeous, Manushi Chhillar, wowed the judges in every round!  However, it was in her final question and answer round that she sealed the deal.  Manushi was asked which profession she thought deserved the highest salary and why.  She said salary does not matter, but a mother deserves the highest respect.

“I think a mother is of highest respect. I don’t think its just about cash but love and respect she gives to someone. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. Mother should get highest respect.”

In 1966, Reita Faria became the first Indian woman to become Miss World.  This was followed by wins by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (1994), Diana Haydon (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), and Priyanka Chopra (2000).  The next few years, India was unable to snag the title… until now! Manushi Chhillar becomes the sixth Miss India to win Miss World.  Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle (Miss World 2016) crowned Manushi!

Manushi has already been receiving congratulations from top names in India.  Some of the biggest names to tweet their congratulations to her include Prime Minister Modi, former Miss World Priyanka Chopra, and Amitabh Bachchan!  These are just a few of the many sending her their wishes!

We wish Manushi all the best on her journey as Miss World!  It is a historic moment that will most definitely bring only positivity her way!
