Sumati Singh on India’s historic move with the approval of the Women’s Reservation Bill

In the past week, India made a historic move by passing the Women’s Reservation Bill, also known as the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’. This bill reserves one-third (1/3) of seats in both the lower house, and state assemblies for women. Many international bodies, including the United Nations, have praised India’s move for a more progressive and inclusive legislation ensuring women’s inclusion in the building of democracy. Actress Sumati Singh, currently seen on ‘Kismat Ki Lakiro Se’, expressed her excitement after the passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Speaking about the same, Sumati shares,

“This historic move towards the approval of the Women’s Reservation Bill is a significant milestone in our democracy. It reflects a long-overdue recognition of the vital role women play in shaping our nation’s future. This legislation not only empowers women, but also enriches the diversity and inclusivity of our political landscape. It’s a step towards a more balanced and representative governance, a change that we’ve waited for far too long.”

She elaborates by stating that this is also a win for those who have always worked towards ensuring gender equality in politics,

“This achievement is a testament to the persistence and dedication of countless individuals and organizations, who have tirelessly advocated for gender equality in politics. Now as we witness this progress, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that this newfound representation translates into meaningful policies that benefit all segments of society.”

As the nation continues to take positive steps towards a brighter future and earns international acclaim, it is great to see Sumati understanding that it does not stop here, and every Indian has to ensure that such a bill produces its desired results for the betterment of the country and its citizens.
