Remember those promos on TV with Shah Rukh Khan and a laal dupatta? Or SRK comparing a love story like the tracks of a railway? We’re sure you do, and even though it was just five years ago, it is bound to stir up nostalgia! Those were the days of Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2, the reboot of the iconic Ekta Kapoor and Star Plus show! As the show marks its fifth anniversary, let us remember the reboot, which managed to make its place in many hearts worldwide!
The show premiered on Tuesday, the 25 September 2018, at 8 p.m. on Star Plus. Portraying the iconic roles of Anurag Basu and Prerna Sharma were Parth Samthaan and Erica Fernandes. With Hina Khan and later, Aamna Sharif playing everyone’s favourite vamp Komolika, and Karan Singh Grover and later Karan Patel playing everyone’s favourite charmer, Rishabh Bajaj. Anurag’s parents, Moloy and Mohini Basu were played by Uday Tikekar and Shubhaavi Choksey. Prerna’s parents, Rajesh and Veena Sharma, were played by Kali Prasad Mukherjee and Kanupriya Pandit. Actress Pooja Banerjee played the role of Nivedita Basu – Anurag’s sister, while Sahil Anand played her husband, Anupam Sengupta.
The show may have been a reboot, but aimed to offer a modern retelling of the memorable love story with many new characters and tracks, thus giving a brand new experience to viewers rather than a repetition of the original. The chemistry between the leading pair, Parth Samthaan and Erica Fernandes, is one of the finest to ever hit TV screens. Both actors cemented themselves as true performers on the show. Not only them but every actor on the show lived their characters fully and shone in every scene.
The show debuted in the Top 10 on the BARC charts and was a constant in the Top 10. The show had even reached number 1 in early 2019! The show had a successful run of two years, but its impact will last forever. That overall feel and essence Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 brought was different and quite hard to find again. It was not because it came from the 2000s era of shows but because, at a time with fast-moving and modern drama, classic execution and smooth-paced drama is refreshing! What made it work even more was the relatability of the characters, which appealed to a new generation.
The Kasautii Zindagii Kay reboot is one of those shows which have left behind a legacy, and memories of the show are held closely to its many viewers’ hearts!
