Actor Rajat Sukhija, who will be seen in the upcoming film Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar, has built his acting journey through years of theatre, professional training, auditions and work across television, films and commercials. Although he was good at academics, performing gradually became a part of his life through eight years of Ramleela in his hometown, singing at religious functions and participating in stage shows. These experiences eventually encouraged him to explore acting as a profession.

Talking about the biggest learning experience theatre has given him and how it influences his approach to characters, Rajat says,

“For me, theatre is not just about learning acting; it’s about understanding life. It makes you a better human being by helping you understand society, human behaviour, and different perspectives. During my three years of theatre in Delhi and two years of professional training at Bharatendu Natya Academy, I learned the finer aspects of performance, voice, body language and character development. Even today, I try not to judge my characters. I try to understand their experiences, their motivations, and the emotions that lie beneath the surface. I think that’s theatre’s biggest gift to me: you get one life, but through acting, you get to understand and experience so many others.”

Reflecting on the turning points and challenges that shaped his career, Rajat says,

“I think getting selected at Bharatendu Natya Academy was a major turning point because it gave me the professional foundation I needed. During my training, I also got my first film, Dear Latika, directed by Kanchan Pant, which travelled to various film festivals. Moving to Mumbai was another big turning point. There were countless auditions and rejections, and moments when I questioned myself, but I kept going. Today, I’ve done around 70–75 commercials for brands like LG, Axis Bank, OnePlus and RuPay, along with work across television and films. Looking back, I’ve realised that consistency, positivity, and continuously working on your craft are extremely important in this industry. I’m grateful to God, my teachers and my parents for their blessings. And now, with exciting film projects across different genres, I feel I’m entering a new phase of my journey. I see every opportunity not as a destination, but as motivation to push myself further.”

With Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar, Rajat continues to add to a journey that began with theatre and grew through formal training and varied on-screen experiences. His work across different formats has given him opportunities to understand performance from different perspectives while continuing to develop his craft.

From his early stage performances to professional acting assignments, the journey of Rajat Sukhija reflects the importance of patience, training and consistency. As he takes on new projects, he hopes to keep exploring different characters and genres, allowing each opportunity to contribute to his growth as an actor.
