Taapsee Pannu’s last film Gameover got a lot of appreciation. Now the actress’ next film Mission Mangal is releasing tomorrow.
We got an opportunity to speak with Taapsee in a group interview where she opened up about her journey in the film industry Mission Mangal and more.
When asked about the criteria of selection of the film Taapsee Pannu says,
“I choose a script on the basis that if I will pay the money to see the film. Because the time I give in watching a film will never come back. The money is one thing but time will never come back. So that’s the only criteria in selecting the script that if I will watch the film or not. I expect the film that I do to be a hit or else why would I do it. Don’t think that art ke liye kr li as such. I also think if I would want to show my kids that I have done this film.”
When Taapsee was asked about the expectations with different genders, she says,
“All of these gender problems, you know why it’s happening because for so many years a certain type of roles and films from a female character has been happening. Now we are at a cusp of change when suddenly in the last three or four years there has been some crazy amount of changes happening. The thing is as females we are getting used to tasting this blood. Now we want more. But it can’t happen overnight as it is happening over so many years, so we have to give it a little time. We are at an uncertain phase which will smoothen after a few years. If not in my generation it will happen in the next generation provided we don’t give up. ”
When asked about films of stars opening to big numbers and other films getting a niche audience, Taapsee says,
“See a star is a person on whom people will put money with a blind faith. A star is a person for whom the audience would go to watch the film. According to me, that’s the definition of stardom or else you are an actor. I don’t doubt I am a decent actor, I can hold people for two hours that I am not doubting. But the mass love that a person gets is stardom which gets box office number. And there are new stars getting created.”
When asked according to you which female is a star, Taapsee says,
“I call Priyanka Chopra a star. I will call Deepika a star. I’ll call Alia a star. I also call Kangana to an extent a star because she has consistently proven she can call a certain opening figure. Vidya is also a star.”
Mission Mangal releases tomorrow on the occasion of Independence day. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menen, Taapsee Pannu, Sharman Joshi amongst others.
