Nawazuddin Siddiqui‘s Monsoon Shootout had created quite a buzz since the release of its interactive trailer. The movie which released this Friday.
Director Amit Kumar formed the story idea when he was a student at the Film and Television Institute of India. Four years after that the crime thriller was completed.
The story of Monsoon Shootout is all about the choices faced by the central character, played by Vijay Verma. The plot is filled with possibilities, different outcomes for a common set of events and characters. The movie is a psychological thriller and the director took a help from psychology students to understand the nuances of one’s mind and thinking pattern.
Director Amit built up his story with the help of these students insights. Speaking on this Amit Kumar said,
“Psychology students are just a euphemism for leading psychologists like Stefan Herzog and Ralh Hertwig, philosophers like Hegel and Brain researchers like Roth. I learnt a lot of things from the collective wisdom of these men. Basically, even if you are dozing in your chair, you are bombarded with an incredible 11 million sensory impressions per second. And our conscious thought, can process only 40 to 60 of these. The rest of them are intercepted by the unconscious mind. This autopilot evaluates huge masses of information without us even noticing it.
Funnily, the golden rule is: the more pros and cons you have to consider, the less you should agonize over them. Instead you should trust your intuition. However, if the situation involves new factors that are outside your area of experience, then through an inner debate on the pros and cons, we can play the devil’s advocate and make better informed choices.”
He continued,
“Ultimately, when you are in a split second decision scenario, there is no time to rely on the conscious thought. You are left to rely on the unconscious. However, the good news is that you can train this autopilot.”
Monsoon Shootout is a crime thriller directed by Amit Kumar. Monga, Anurag Kashyap, Arun Rangachari and Vivek Rangachari have produced the film. The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vijay Verma, Neeraj Kabi and Tannishtha Chatterjee.
Monsoon Shootout released on 15th December. The film has been appreciated widely by critics.
