Get Ready for the 2016 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles

Just announced are the 2016 Jury members for the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. The festival is held from April 6th to April 10th, 2016. April 6th and April 10th are the opening and closing red carpets, respectively.

The 2016 film jurors are:

Filmmaker Shonali Bose (MARGARITA, WITH A STRAW, AMU)
Features Editor at Variety, Shalini Dore
International consultant to independent filmmakers and film festivals, Alesia Weston.

Judging the short films are:

Actor Rizwan Manji (OUTSOURCED, Jim Jarmusch’s upcoming PATERSON)
Documentary filmmaker Laura Nix (THE YES MEN ARE REVOLTING)
Film director and editor Aldo Velasco (CHITTAGONG).

“The Awards Ceremony will take place on April 10 at the festival’s Closing Night, prior to the North American premiere of Anu Menon’s WAITING, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Kalki Koechlin.

Menon and Koechlin will be in attendance.”

“A Filmmaker Roundtable will be presented on Saturday, April 9 at 12:00PM celebrating the record number of feature directors attending IFFLA this year. Senior Programmer at the Sundance Film Festival, John Nein, will moderate a discussion with the directors about the current state of independent filmmaking in India.”

Every year IFFLA dedicates a special screening to a legendary film maker in Indian cinema. This year is dedicated to Bimal Roy with a special screening of Sujata, a passholder screening of The Tiger Hunter, and an open screening of Khoya. Please check their website for details.

A little about IFFLA – The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Indian cinema and culture, supporting up and coming actors and filmmakers. The festival takes place in spring at the Arc Light theater in Hollywood. This year marks the 14th year!
