If you haven’t seen this yet, you’re not using your time wisely. The Dutch beer, Heineken, hit marketing gold when they decided to capitalize on globalization. Regardless of the fact of if you’re an alcohol consumer or not, the commercial, called “The Date” is good clean fun and pays homage to the famous and cult classic Bollywood song, “Jaan Pehechan Ho.”
The commercial begins with a man hurriedly escorting a pretty raven-haired woman to an Asian restaurant, and no we don’t mean Desi. They enter the kitchen where we find out he’s a regular, and he impresses the girl with a few playful tricks, nothing short of the tried-and-true Bollywood format. You’ll have to wait until after about a minute to hear the famous chorus play through your speakers to take you back to the time of Mohammad Rafi, Manoj Kumar and Nanda.They end in a frantic dance, much like the original, and share two Heinkens. Simple, genius premise! Finally, all is good and well, but someone really needs to take me on a date where we frolick to “Jaan Pehechan Ho” because that’s my idea of a good time.
