As the new year begins, we can’t help but reflect on things in the past. Throughout the years, Bollywood has seen some sizzling on-screen jodis from Vyjantimala-Dilip Kumar to present day’s Aishwarya-Abhishek. Last year saw the reunion of the Kajol-SRK jodi in My Name is Khan, but here are my thoughts on jodis that will hopefully make a comeback in 2011 (in no particular order)
Besides Kajol, if there’s any actress that should make a comeback this year, it’s Juhi Chawla. Juhi ruled the mid 80s and 90s with her perfect comic timing, cute face, and excellent acting skills. We loved Aamir-Juhi together in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Ishq. Since Aamir continues to act, he needs to reunite with this lovely heroine.
The hit jodi of Karisma-Govinda ruled the screen in the early 90s delivering hits such as Coolie No 1, Hero No 1, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Raja Babu, and Saajan Chale Sasural. Every year since Lolo stopped acting to focus on her personal life, rumors are flying about when she’ll make a comeback. Let’s hope she chooses to make her comeback with Govinda!
While we’re on the topic of Karisma, perhaps a reunion with Salman Khan would be interesting to see in 2011. In fact, the two look more fit and gorgeous now than they did back in the day. Karisma has transformed into a glamorous style icon and Salman too has become a reigning action hero.
I’m sure you’re wondering why I didn’t suggest a Karisma-Akshay reunion in 2011, but that’s because Akshay should be reunited with Raveena! Before he married Twinkle Khanna and before his dhadkhan beat for Shilpa Shetty, Akshay and Raveena were an item. Their chemistry was most evident in Mohra. Now that both are happily married and have moved on from their early romance, maybe they’ll be able to produce a mature performance on screen.
No list would be complete without mentioning the Madhuri-Salman jodi. Perhaps Rajshree Productions can reunite these hearthrobs in a new film. Madhuri’s back in India as a judge on Jhalak Dikhlaja. Let’s hope directors are smart enough to snag her in a new movie!
Perhaps one of the hottest on-screen pairs to grace the big screen was that of Kareena-Hrithik. The chemistry between the two was only rivaled by that of Nargis-Raj Kapoor. Now that Hrithik is happily married with two kids and Kareena too is in a happy relationship, now’s a safe (no pun intended) time as any for them to be cast together again. The last time we saw these two together on screen was way back in 2003 with the dud Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon.
If Kareena-Hrithik made one of the hottest jodis, that of Preity and Saif Ali Khan (Kareena’s current beau) made one of the most fun jodis. The two were always at ease with one another and produced hits like Salaam Namaste and Kal Ho Na Ho.
Another really adorable jodi was that of Rani-Shahid which has, sadly, only been used once in Dil Bole Hadippa. The two have cute smiles, amazing dance moves, and exude hotness. Can’t go wrong with this pairing. (Directors are you listening?)
Perhaps the best pairing for Rani on screen was with Jr B, Abhishek Bachchan. When we saw them together in movies like Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Lagi Chunnari Mein Daag we thought that Rani was on her way to become the new Bachchan bahu. Aishwarya Rai went on to snag that title, but perhaps directors could reunite these two so at least fans of the two can delight in seeing them together on screen.
One of the cutest on-screen jodis was between Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor. They looked so good together on screen and had undeniable chemistry. Too bad the director of Vivah didn’t think to just get them married on set. Now Shahid is rumored to be Priyanka Chopra’s boyfriend, but maybe cupid will intervene again to get Shahid and Amrita back together.
