Which Diwali Release Will Reign Supreme?

This Diwali, Bollywood is yet again hoping that Laxmi showers their films with love and success. Two of the most anticipated movies of the year, Action Replayy (starring Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar) and the multi-starrer Golmaal 3 (starring Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, Mithun Chakraborthy, Tushaar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi, and Kunal Khemu) releases on Diwali.

Let’s quickly look at the hits and misses in both films:

HITS:
* the underused pairing of Aishwarya Rai with Akshay Kumar
* performances by Akshay Kumar – he has mastered his comedic timing!
* the retro theme

MISSES:
* the music doesn’t live up to expectations
* poor characterization
* poor editing

HITS:
* spoofs of the old movies
* Mithun busts out his “Disco Dancer” moves
* Some parts are really funny

MISSES:
* not knowing when to stop a joke
* weaker storyline than the first two Golmaals (if that’s even possible!)
* Tushaar fails to live up to expectations
