Singh, who comes from a small town in India near Kanpur, dealt with a lot of restrictions and hurdles as she was trying to create her career.

“My family cut me off for several years as per their thoughts, I was not a ‘good girl’ … slowly doing content became more normalized and they started to understand it, and after 5-6 years, I started speaking with them.”

As she started to create fitness content, Singh realized that there were a lot of women who  could relate to her journey and struggle with conservative families and learning how to take strength from within through working out. Now with over 660k followers on Instagram, Singh has created a strong fanbase with her work, and the makers of Tribeverse had reached out to her to interview for the show.

“I thought that being part of the show would be helpful in terms of visibility because it’s a great platform. I was very scared and am not very confident, so the show was a big deal for me because I would be on television. Plus, I really wanted to travel Nagaland, and thought I would take the risk of the show and try it!”

Singh describes herself as an introvert and someone who has social anxiety, which the show helped her slightly overcome as she had to be with completely new people for a few weeks.

“I was there for a total of two weeks, and being completely away from my phone was a great level of peace. And I’ve always been alone, I don’t have a lot of friends in real life, so it wasn’t a very new feeling for me.”

Over the duration of the show, Singh enjoyed the nature in Nagaland and explored the area around the setup of the show whenever the cameras weren’t rolling.

“I got to experience the type of life that I would want: being in nature, sleeping on the ground, making your own food, and performing tasks.”

When asked if it was hard for her to be cut off from her family to make decisions around planning in the show, Singh shared that she has always taken her own decisions from a very young age, so it wasn’t new to her.

“I never call and share my problems with other people around me, so it wasn’t really a problem for me.”

Through her content creation, Singh hopes that her content adds value and inspires specifically her female audience.

“For a majority of Indian women, there’s always some form of pressure on them by society for marriage, wearing certain clothing, being spiritual, etc. I think that beyond this, if someone wants to achieve something, and they should do it, even if everyone is against you.”
