Producer Madhu Mantena, who was a part of Phantom Films with Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl and Vikramaditya Motwane had recently produced Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30.
Madhu Mantena is all set with an interesting tale of Kota Rani.
Kota Rani was the daughter of Ramachandra, the commander-in-chief of Suhadeva, the king of Lohara dynasty in Kashmir. She was very intelligent and a great thinker. She was the savior of the city of Srinagar from frequent floods by getting a canal constructed, named after her and called Kute Kol. Kota Rani was the Hindu ruler of Lohara dynasty in medieval Kashmir, ruling until 1339.
Madhu Mantena will be bankrolling the film with Phantom Films & Reliance Entertainment.
Madhu Mantena said:
“It’s a matter of great surprise that as Indians we don’t know enough. They don’t know at all about a personality like Kota Rani. It would be no exaggeration to compare her to Cleopatra. A lot of things that we are witnessing today are directly related to the story of Kota Rani.”
He said that she was the most able woman ruler India produced.
“Her life was extremely dramatic and she is perhaps one of the most able woman ruler that India produced. It would be a shame not to know about her.”
Sibashish Sarkar, Group CEO, Reliance Entertainment said:
“Her character has many shades but without a doubt she is one of the tallest female characters to have come out of our country. Paradoxically, very few of us know about her. We will be making this film at an ambitious scale.”
They haven’t yet finalised the director and cast of the film. It will be interesting to see who would take up this challenge.
