Actor Anupam Kher, who was appointed as the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) chairperson on 11th October 2017 has resigned from his duties. The veteran actor has cited work commitments to international work projects as the reason for the same.

He took to Twitter and wrote:
“It has been an honour, a privilege & a great learning experience to be the Chairman of the prestigious @FTIIOfficial. But because of my international assignments I won’t have much time to devote at the institute. Hence decided to send my resignation. Thank you. 🙏 @Ra_THORe”
He even thanked the staff and students of the institute for appreciating him as the Chairman: He tweeted:
“Thank you staff, teachers & students of @FTIIOfficial for your support & appreciation during my tenure as chairman. As an individual you can always reach out to me. We have constituted a very learned & capable governing body & academic society who will guide you at their best.🙏”
His resignation letter directed to Shri Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore – Information and Broadcasting Minister, reads that due to his commitment to an international TV show (for which he will be stationed in the US) he has to resign. His letter stated that due to the show getting an extension of 4 months, he will not be in the country for nearly nine months between 2018 and 2019. He also stated that he will not be in India for a similar period for a minimum of three years more.
He further adds in the letter that ‘Given this assignment, it would not be fair to me, the students and management team, for me to hold a position of such responsibility and accountability, without being actively involved in the operations.”
Anupam Kher was appointed as the chairperson of the FTII post there being widespread protests from the students when Gajendra Chauhan was appointed it chairperson.
On the work front, Anupamji has started shooting for an international project titled New Amsterdam, a medical drama where the actor essays the role of a neurosurgeon.
