We at UrbanAsian got in touch with the actor and asked him about him doing films after a long time, the reason behind choosing High Jack and lots more. Read on to know all that the actor had to share with us.

1. What made you say yes to the role?
After being known as a comic actor for all my life, here was a chance to play the tough guy. And when Akarsh Khurana narrated the script to me, I had no reason to say no. First of all, I loved the character and most importantly it was a chance to work with my favorite director once again. (I worked with Akarsh on a web series called Boygiri).

2. How was it working with Akarsh Khurana?
There is a reason why he is called Daata – The Giver. He is not just a director he is an institution and a cool one at that. My only regret in life is, I met him too late in life, but better late than never. I love Akarsh Khurana to the core.

3. Acting, direction or producer- which is easy and which is fun?
Acting is the most fun for me, the direction is an art which I am refining and producing is a math that is the toughest.

4.You have returned to films as an actor after a very long time. What was the reason behind this?
It is so easy to get stereotyped in the industry, why is it so tough for people to realize that just the way they cannot have the same food every day an actor cannot do the same roles every time. I was being offered roles which were similar to what I had done, with comic undertones or the heroes insignificant friends. I could not push myself to do the same over and over, so I’d rather not be seen on big screen than be seen doing something which will not be remembered.

5. How is Mantra off the screen and on screen?
Mantra is a Behrupiya. Many facets of a single entity.

6. Your dream role?

  • Garry Oldman in Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula
  • Marlon Brando in Godfather
  • Heath Ledger in Dark Knight

7. What’s next?
Playing genie in Disney India’s Aladdin. A couple of web series. Sequel to my international film Rebellious Flower. And taking my podcast channel MnM Talkies to next level.
