Legendary author Leo Tolstoy’s most iconic work-Anna Karenina is all set to release on the big screen in India.
While the novel has been earlier adapted in many other languages on big as well as small screen, this will be the first time that the film will be released in India. The film is based on the novel and the memoir In the Japanese War by Vikenty Veresaev.
Produced and directed by Oscar nominated director Karen Shakhnazarov (for the film White Tiger) Anna Karenina is the tragic story of Countess Anna Karenina, a married noblewoman and socialite, and her affair with the affluent Count Vronsky.
Talking about the film, Director Karen Shakhnazarov said:
“I have wanted to make a film about love for a long time, and what could be more interesting than filming Anna Karenina? The way I see it, nothing better has ever been written, or will ever be written, about relationships between men and women. This is why I was extremely careful to follow the original text in the part of the film which deals with the relationship between Anna, Vronsky and Karenin. Both the plot and the dialogue are unchanged.”
Talking about releasing the film in India, Ravi Goswami, Executive Producer, RG Studios said:
“Anna Karenina is special for us and we are so excited to release it PAN India. The grandeur that director Karen has projected in the film is no less than that of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films. The films we are distributing in Russia are doing well and they love Bollywood. I am sure Indians will also welcome their friends from other side of the globe.”
RG studios will be releasing the film pan India in English and Hindi on December 8th.
This will be the second Russian film to release in India after The Crew (By RG Studios) that had opened early this year to a rave response.
