Elnaaz Norouzi’s first female lead role in a Hollywood film is turning into an important moment for the actress.
The Fix, starring Zachary Levi and Liam Neeson and directed by Guy Moshe, is currently playing in theaters across the United States, and while American critics have had plenty to say about the film itself, one thing has repeatedly stood out: Elnaaz’s performance as Zara.
For an actress who first broke through globally with Sacred Games and has spent the years since building a career across India and international productions, the recognition carries particular weight. This isn’t simply another international appearance for Elnaaz. Zara marks her first female lead role in a Hollywood feature, placing her at the heart of an American action thriller alongside established Hollywood names.
And some of the strongest recognition has come from the American film press.
In his review for The Hollywood Reporter, veteran film critic Frank Scheck singled Elnaaz out as “very good” in the role of Zara, the young Iranian-American woman recruited to pose as Tucker’s wife as his mission takes him into Tehran.
Film critic Edward Douglas went further in The Weekend Warrior, writing that he “loved Elnaaz Norouzi” and praising the playfulness she brings to an otherwise tough dramatic story. His review also notes the significance of the film giving its female characters meaningful roles within a genre so often dominated by men.
That sentiment has surfaced elsewhere too. Reviews have highlighted Elnaaz and Zachary Levi’s chemistry, while other coverage has called attention to Zara’s agency and presence within the film’s largely male-driven world.
What makes the response particularly significant is that the praise isn’t simply about Elnaaz’s presence in a Hollywood production. Critics are noticing the performance itself.
Zara enters The Fix after the story is already underway, but quickly becomes integral to Tucker’s journey and ultimately to how the story unfolds. For Elnaaz, an Iranian-born actress playing an Iranian-American woman in a Hollywood thriller set largely in Iran, the role also carries a personal connection rarely available to her in an international production.
The moment represents another significant step in a career that has never followed an obvious geographical path: born in Tehran, raised in Germany, established as an actress in India and now taking on her first Hollywood leading role in the United States.
And this time, Hollywood isn’t simply seeing Elnaaz Norouzi in the frame.
It’s noticing what she does with it.
The Fix is currently playing in theaters across the United States and is set to release theatrically in India toward the end of October, giving Indian audiences the chance to see Elnaaz take on her first female lead role in a Hollywood feature on the big screen.
