Shikha Singh

Why did you choose to be part of BCL Season 2?
As I am passionate about sports, I think there’s nothing better than sports to keep one fit physically and mentally. I couldn’t play for the previous season as I was out of town.

Why did you choose to be a part of Rowdy Bangalore?
Rowdy Bangalore are underdogs, and I always like to play for a good team like that. And I am proud of my decision to play with them as they have played very well this year. I’m not here to seek glory for myself. I’m someone who works hard and makes thing work even when there is nothing going for it. I never give up.

Since when have you been so passionate about the game?
I started playing cricket since the age of 5, with with my elder brother and his friends. I used to field at that time, but gradually I started playing too. Besides, my family always encouraged us to take up sports while we were growing up.

Who’s your favorite cricketer?
Definitely MS Dhoni. Besides the fact that he is calm, I like the way he’s conducted himself as a captain and kept the team together. For someone who’s come from a humble background, his achievements are commendable.

Any cricket match experience from the past that you’d like to share.
Nothing specific, I love to watch all the cricket matches with friends.

How much do you practice everyday?
We try to practice every alternate day. I suffered a major injury once while practicing – a Clay Shoveler’s fracture on my C5-6. I ended up wearing a neck collar in my first match. The pain was excruciating, but I had to play for the team.

What kind of training are you undergoing to build up stamina?
Currently, our practice is taking care of our training. Our hectic schedules don’t let us do much otherwise.

Who’s your best pal in the team?
I think I gel well with Puru Chibber. He is calm, hardworking and passionate about sports just like me. Gurmeet is also one of my favorites. The rest are all nice and touchwood, we’ve not had any internal fights so far as everyone is quite chilled out.
