Katrina Kaif’s red hair in Fitoor has been the talk of B-town these past few weeks, with everyone wondering where and how she got such a stunning color!
The man behind the “Fitoor red” shade of Kat’s hair is veteran celeb stylist Asgar Saboo, and he’s sharing exclusive details with UrbanAsian about how he pulled off the tricky look!
It has been a long journey for British-Indian hairstylist Asgar Saboo, who began his juggernaut career in 1975 as an apprentice at the prestigious Daniel Galvin hair studio in London. Since then, he has had the privilege of working with all the tops stars from East to West, rattling off an exclusive list of clientele that includes names like Cindy Crawford, Eva Longoria, Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone, and now Katrina Kaif.
But despite his enviable career, Asgar maintains a keen sense of humility when talking about his experiences, saying, “I still find it incredibly exciting, and I feel privileged to work with some of the biggest stars in the world. Also, I am aware of the huge responsibility of bringing their characters to life.”
So when Abhishek Kapoor decided that luscious red locks were needed to bring Katrina’s character Firdaus to life in Fitoor, his adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations, there was only one man for the job: Asgar Saboo!
“They knew exactly what they wanted, and which tone of red would complement [Katrina’s] skin tone,” says Asgar, who collaborated on developing the look with Abhishek and Katrina. The stunning actress traveled to the Daniel Galvin studio in London, where it took one full day to achieve the look the Fitoor team wanted without damaging Kat’s hair.
The task, according to Asgar, wasn’t easy. “Red is one of the hardest colors to maintain as it fades so easily. It needs regular maintenance to keep it looking vibrant. We used a rich red-tone vegetable color with a color gloss to give it shine and maintain [Katrina’s] look.”
The frequency with which Katrina’s color needed to be touched up gave birth to some wild rumors about the actress running up a huge bill by making constant trips to London. But Asgar clears the air, saying that it was actually he who travelled to Mumbai periodically throughout shooting to help maintain Katrina’s vibrant color.
And this color, he says, was a look that only Katrina could have pulled off. “Katrina has the most beautiful porcelain skin, so the rich shade of red lit up her face and made her features stand out,” he says, adding, “She is one of very few Bollywood actresses who can carry this look with confidence!”
Judging by the phenomenal response to the Fitoor promotions thus far, it looks like all of Asgar’s hard work has paid off, with Katrina’s look being appreciated from all quarters!
