The thirteen-year-old Salman Khan hit-and-run case has held the attention of Indians locally and globally. Fans, friends and family have been praying for Khan and pouring in their support for the superstar. Khan has been charged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, amongst other charges for allegedly driving drunk and killing one person and injuring four others.
Lawyers, Khan‘s family, court staffers and their relatives, media personnel and police officers filled the courtroom. Khan is convicted in the 2002 hit-and-run case and has been held guilty of all charges against him in the case. He was also charged for driving without a license. Khan may face a jail term of up to ten years on the charges against him. The court will rely on judgements in Alistair Pereira case and Nikhil Nanda BMW case of Delhi while convicting Khan. When Khan was asked what he has to say, he denied the charges, claiming he was not driving the car. Khan’s lawyer pleaded with the judge for a maximum sentence of two years and a fine, keeping in mind Khan’s humanitarian work.
