Farhan Akhtar is known for being vocal about issues related to women empowerment. He started an organization called MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) and has always stood up for women’s rights. The actor will now be joining the likes of Hollywood actresses, Nicole Kidman and Emma Watson as a United Nations (UN) goodwill ambassador for women for South Asia. Farhan is the first man to receive this title.
Farhan was recently in New York and was one of the key speakers at the UN conference on gender equality. Amongst his audience were Hollywood bigwigs like Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Fanning, etc. They all congratulated Farhan for his new role as ambassador. It is also reported that Farhan met with UN secretary general, Ban Ki-Moon and Hilary Clinton.
Farhan also attended the screening of the banned documentary film, India’s Daughter and showed strong support for the film. All we can is congratulations Farhan and that he is definitely showing us how to be a mard.
