Is rape a joke in India?

We’re only 6 days away from Valentine’s Day, one of the most romantic days of the year.  But I write today regarding a more serious topic – Rape.  Over the last couple of years, it seems that rapes in India are getting more and more brutal (remember Delhi?).  Meanwhile, the laws are remaining lax.  A few days ago, another incredibly brutal rape case occurred in India.  There is also a more “blame the victim” mentality in India, which really needs to change.  It doesn’t matter what a girl is wearing or the time of day she is out and about.  The problem isn’t with the girl, the problem is with the guys who are taking advantage of her.  The mindset where rapists feel that they can get away with such things needs to change.  For example, remember how a few days back we reported on a businessman trying to molest a girl in a plane (see here)?  Luckily, she videotaped the guy, and filed a complaint.  He’s now in jail according to reports.  Yes, there are some cases where men are the victims of rape too, but in terms of statistics, there are more women who are the victim of the crime.  Moreover, their rapes are also more brutal.

Comedian, Vasundhara Kaul, speaks up regarding this issue for “#RapePublicDay.”  The description of the video on Youtube says,

“Mard ko dard nahi hota… ab hoga? Watch a Girl deliver a 6 minute stand-up Set on Rape. We love getting offended but Please Relax, this is a work of satire. One-Line message to all the men out there…”
