Final Verdict: Top ten highest grossing Bollywood flicks of 2014

2014 has been one roller coaster ride for Bollywood. With lots of hits and misses, this was surely one eventful year for the Hindi film industry. Here’s a list of movies that raked in loads of accolades and off course, lots of moolah too! Check out our list of top 10 flicks that made the most money!

1. Kick:

The audience loved Salman Khan’s super hero avatar! The theatres ran packed houses which automatically translated to record breaking box office collections. The movie made 231.20 Cr. and raced past the 100 Cr. club in just a couple of days. Salman Khan’s charm had worked once again! Being the most anticipated Salman Khan starrer, the movie was a blockbuster.

When you have a star studded cast starring the Badshah of Bollywood and a director like Farah Khan in town, the movie by default is a sure shot winner at the box office. With foot tapping songs, exotic locales and of course the cast, Happy New Year made 204.10 Cr. at the Box Office. The movie was a smash hit not only in India but also overseas.

3. Bang Bang:

The official remake of Hollywood film Knight and Day, the Hrithik Roshan starrer that gathered a lot of buzz before its release. Fans were crazy about Hrithik’s look in the film and came out in support of their beloved heart throb. Bang Bang went on to make a whooping 181.40 Cr. making it one of the top grossing films of 2014.

4. Singham Returns:

The second movie in the Singham franchise, Singham Returns was a super hit just like its prequel. The Rohit Shetty directed movie went on to gross 140.80 Cr. making it to the 100 Cr. club at par with other multi-starrer movies in 2014. With a fresh pair in the lead, a strong story line and the hallmark Rohit Shetty stunts Singham Returns was a typical Bollywood masala film made for the Indian audience.

 

5. Jai Ho:

Director Sohail Khan’s story about a man on a mission to bring about a revolutionary change managed to impress the masses. The movie went on to make 114.30 Cr. making its presence felt among the top films that released early this year.

 

6. Holiday:

The khiladi of Bollywood got into full combat mode in this official remake of the Tamil blockbuster Thupakki. Although this movie was expected to make more on the Box Office, it garnered a decent 112.10 Cr. Successful in meeting audience expectations; Holiday was declared a hit at the Box Office.

7. 2 States:

2 States was definitely a refreshing love story with lots of twists and turns! Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor made a really good pair that was appreciated by the masses as well. This movie also saw two well known producers Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar join hands for the first time ever. With a great story, cast and songs, this movie had everything to make it work. 2 States earned 104.55 Cr. at the Box Office.

8. Ek Villain:

Siddharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor definitely made a refreshing pair in this social thriller. With chartbuster music and a thrilling story, filmmaker Mohit Suri dished out the perfect formula that works for Bollywood. The film was a runaway success and did a business of 103.90 Cr.

 

9. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania:

Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt were once again seen together in this rom-com that was produced by mentor, Karan Johar. This light hearted comic caper was a refreshing change from other intense movies that released this year. The movie did fairly well and the masses adored the lead pair making it hit, thanks to the peppy numbers and some really catchy dialogues. The movie made 77.55 Cr. much more than what was expected of it!

 

10. Gunday:

YRF’S Gunday got together a league of Bollywood stalwarts in a single frame. While Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh gave really good performances, PeeCee and Irrfan Khan were outstanding in the roles they played. The track “Dil mein baji ghantiya” was on everyone’s minds. YRF went on to make 77.30 Cr. and hit gold with this perfect combination.
