Tamachey releases next weekend in theaters worldwide.
Congrats on the film launch for Tamanchey! – For the readers who don’t know about you – what made you go into acting?
It was the various Hindi films that i grew up watching which swayed me towards the world of cinema. I think i was only four but i decided to be an actor once i grew up.
You went from making films which are about gangs to erotic romance and now Tamanchey – why did you take this role?
Tamanchey was unique n a quirky love story. That fascinated me. Usually one sees a good boy and a good girl and they fall in love. But Tamanchey is a love story of two bad ass people. They thrive on crime. They r in fact turned on by it.
If not acting, what profession would you be doing?
I would still be struggling to be an actor 🙂
How has N.D been able to build his craft over the years as an actor?
Well one grows as one is working. I do review my own performances. Ask people whose views i respect fpr feedback. That hepls.
What is the story line of Tamanchey?
Its a Love story of two outlaws.
We hear that an old tune from Amitabh’ film is in your movie – how was the film director and yourself able to pull that off with such an ‘old is gold’ gift and have the tune in the film?
Yes the song Pyar Mein Dil Pe Maar De Goli is special for all of us. We knew we could never surpass the magic of Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, RD Burman, Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle. But in our own way we have paid a tribute to them and to the cinema that we grew up watching and admired.
What’s next for Nikhil Dwivedi in 2014 and 2015?
A biopic on gangster on Abu Salem where I would be playing Abu Salem.
Lot of actors are now supporting small films which launch at film festivals across the world – how do you feel about films who make documentaries and short films? Do you support small films as well?
Of course I do. Short films and documentaries are very important in their space and should be encouraged by all those who can.
Your Co-star Richaa Chada is also in this film – how was it like working with her on set?
Richa Chadda is a competent actor. She gave her all to the role of “Babu” that she plays in the film. It was great working with her.
Lastly, what does N.D do in his spare time when not reading lines or shooting?
I do a lot of reading in my spare time. And music. Music is very important to my life.
