The latest from Fox Star Studios, Bang Bang, is a remake of the hit Hollywood flick Knight and Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron DiazBang Bang is the story of how timid bank receptionist in Shimla Harleen Sahni, played by Katrina Kaif, randomly meets the suave, risk taker Rajveer Nanda, played by Hrithik Roshan. This chance encounter blows away Harleen and she gets unwillingly trapped in the chaotic life of Rajveer Nanda who turns out is an international criminal who has stolen the legendary Kohinoor diamond from London.

The story starts with the death of Jimmy Shiergill’s character Viren, an Army officer, at the hands of criminal mastermind Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa). Zafar is escaping from a high security jail with the help of his army led by his right hand man, Hamid Gul (Javed Jaffrey). Later we see that Rajveer (Hrithik Roshan) stole the Kohinoor for Omar Zafar, but Rajveer doesn’t want to hand over the diamond to Zafar’s men. Meanwhile The Secret Service is after Rajveer for the Kohinoor as well. After their chance encounter, Harleen is tracked down by the secret service and to protect her Rajveer shows up in time to save her and take her on the run with him.

The lines start to blurr on who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. In all this chaos, Harleen has the chance to travel to many of the exotic places she’s only dreamed of and some how she falls in love with the mysterious adventure that is Rajveer, knowing that he’s a wanted criminal. At one point Rajveer and Harleen separate and Harleen returns home to her eccentric grandmother. But Harleen’s broken heart doesn’t give up on Rajveer. Does this unlikely pair survive? Who is the real bad guy? Will they survive the wrath of Omar Zafar? You’ll have to watch to find out.

If you’ve seen Knight and Day, you already know how this movie will end. Bang Bang is exactly like the original, down to the post it’s that Tom Cruise leaves for Cameron Diaz after he drugs her and drops her home. The only parts that were different in Bang Bang was how Katrina and Hrithik’s characters meet, a few supporting characters (like Harleen’s hilarious and eccentric grandmother) and there is a revenge plot in the storyline that wasn’t present in the original. Surprisingly, those are the best parts of the story.

Clearly the writers were creative and they could have kept the essence of the film Knight and Day without copying every other line from the original. If they had made the storyline more different it would have truly blown fans away. The music is amazing, the songs will definitely get stuck in your head. Speaking of music, Hrithik’s dancing was absolutely mind blowing, FINALLY a choreographer truly tapped into Hrithik’s real dancing potential. Katrina was cute as the lost and ditzy Harleen and of course Hrithik is a natural at any role he takes on. The couple look hot together and their chemistry is fun to watch on screen.

The music, cinematography, the chemistry of the stars and Hrithik’s dancing are what bring this movie up to a 2.5, or else it is definitely a 2. Bang Bang wasn’t terrible but nothing that blew us away either, so don’t go into the theater with high expectations (like we did) if you plan on seeing Bang Bang.
